Our new Art Gallery…

So, a few months ago, I was watching a photography workshop with Jasmine Star on the Creative Live Broadcast courtesy of Chase Jarvis. Ms. Star mentioned that her favorite print lab is White House (no relation) Custom Color (www.whcc.com). I had heard of them in other corners of the interwebs so I decided to try them out. Frankly, I was sick of Ritz ruining my meticulously created images with their “one-size-fits-all” printing habits!

I applied for an account and submitted my five 8x10s for calibration. When they came, we were BLOWN AWAY! The quality was far above any other printer we had ever used. We then had a 20×30 print made for our bedroom and it too turned out phenomenal. We went another step forward and used them to print our Christmas cards this year. Again, painfully excellent quality with even better customer service.

So, we went all in. We had a gaping hole of blank wall space in our living room above the television. It taunted Tricia on a daily basis. We had to do something.

We found 24 square feet of wall space – that’s 8 feet long by 3 feet high – and decided to fill it with photos. We scoured my image library and came up with 7 photos to enlarge and print.

We waited the five days it took to print and deliver and opened the four giant boxes with Christmas-morning-glee.

Oh…my…gosh! The prints were jaw-droppingly awesome! It took an hour to measure out where each photo was going to hang. We had to work real hard to line up all our edges and corners, but we managed to do it on the first try. Measure 14 times…bang a nail once, someone once said!

So, knowing this was going to be an epic journey, I set up the camera and computer and took a photo every 20 seconds during the 60 minutes we were preparing. The resulting video is below.

We can’t recommend WHCC enough. Their quality is unsurpassed and their customer service is the best. Each order comes with a little surprise!!

Enjoy the “final” shot and the movie below. And if you’re looking for fine art…I might know a guy!

  2. Very cool idea.
I thought Jacob had too much time on his hands during fellowship to make videos… I obviously spoke too soon.
