Our Little Kindergartener

Today is Abby’s first day of Kindergarten. Jacob and I reminisced all last night and this morning about all the great memories our Piglet has given us over the past 5 years and we just can’t believe how fast she has grown! She looked amazingly big in her new school uniform and was all smiles from the minute she woke up!

Jacob appropriately photo-documented everything from breakfast, to walking out the front door with her backpack and lunch kit. After a few Mom and Dad shots with Abby on the front walk, Abby and I headed off to Trinity Lutheran School for the big event. I parked and walked her in, but as soon as we arrived at the front door of the school she immediately met one of her new classmates, Aiden. She was extremely eager to show this nervous little boy to their new classroom and they instantly bonded, skipping happily down the halls ahead of me.

That’s when the tears started to flow. I really didn’t think I would cry, but I was wrong. By the time we reached Ms. Gretka’s classroom, I was a red-faced mess! Abby hung her backpack and lunch kit on her assigned peg and ran straight into her room to her desk. I stayed outside the room and took it all in, despite Ms. Gretka’s polite invitation to let me go in after her. No hugs goodbye or “Have a great day” wishes, but seeing her so overjoyed to be in her new environment with all her new friends made my day complete. I can’t wait to hear all about it this afternoon when she comes home from her first day of “Big Kid” school.

Don’t worry, Jacob will post his pictures of the morning later. This is just my account of the special morning.

  1. I remember how I cried when her daddy went to kindergarten! How quickly the years pass by. So glad she was so excited.

  2. I remember when your Dad went to Kindergarten, I cried all day, so join the crowd. My neighbor, Ella went today too and we took pictures and her Mom was so close to tears (I think they came) that I just had to then go inside. The picture above is just so beautiful. I am sure that little boy will remember Abby’s kindness forever! Love ya Lots Grandma :o)

  3. I met her on her second birthday and your sweet account of her morning made me cry! I can’t believe she is in kindergarten! I know she loves it!

  4. Another “first”! Cherish these moments! They truly are priceless! Time passes so quickly!
