5th Anniversary Staycation 2010…

Well, it’s Sunday night and Tricia and I are waiting for Abby to come back home from the Geyer’s. We had a great anniversary weekend and wanted to tell you all about it!

We started with dinner and a movie on Friday night. Ate pizza at Uno’s and saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D. Great night. Good times.

Saturday, we slept in (YAY!) and then had lunch and headed into DC. I had reserved a nice room at the Fairmont Washington DC. We arrived early so we left our bags and headed out to wander around downtown DC. It was the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Kite Flyers were out in full force. Unfortunately, someone forgot to let the Cherry Blossoms know they were expected because there weren’t too many of them.

We wandered around the Washington and Lincoln monuments for a few hours and people watched. It was a beautiful sunny day. Pictures are below!

We made it back to the hotel and were surprised to find out that we had been “upgraded” due to the anniversary (it pays to tell the reservationist when making plans!). We were one of the “chosen” as the front desk lady informed us. We got to go to the Gold floor – with special Concierge services and a boatload of other goodies. When we got to the floor we were greeted by the Gold Lounge personnel who informed us that we would be staying in the Lexus Hybrid Suite!!! This is a suite that was designed to be eco-friendly and is sponsored by Lexus.

We found our room and…HOLY CRAP!!! This place was huge! We had THREE SEPARATE DOORS! we could leave from. A giant king size bedroom with balcony, a parlor with a giant TV, a dining room with room for 10 and a business area. Oh, yeah, two bathrooms and a kitchen. Complete with bleached hardwood floors, modern decor, black-painted walls, and tons of original artwork adorning the place. THREE separate floor to ceiling windows let plenty of light in.

We went down to the spa where we had an hour-long deep tissue massage (thanks April and Kristo!) and then a soak in the hot tub and a steam in the menthol-infused steam room (ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!). Then, back to the room to change for dinner.

While we were trying to absorb the craziness, there was a knock on the door and our complimentary champagne and chocolate-covered-strawberries were delivered. They had even written Happy Anniversary in CHOCOLATE!!!

We left again for dinner at Fogo de Chao. Enjoyed MeatFest 2010 and then went back to the room where…

TURNDOWN SERVICE had occurred. There were two chocolate cakes with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate again waiting for us. We enjoyed a movie from the Gold Lounge rental library and finally turned in to bed – exhausted.

We got up this morning and went down for a breakfast buffet and then another dip in the hot tub. Made our way back home and here we are.

What an adventure. The folks at the Fairmont couldn’t have been more wonderful. We really enjoyed ourselves. Check out the pictures below to get a small idea of what things were like.

Enjoy,
J

  1. WOW!!! What a fabulous account, and the photos were truly amazing. I sort of liked the trees in the room best (or parts of them)!! So glad you had a great time, just the 2 of you, and I know Abby must have had a great time on her “staycation” too! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY observed!

  2. OH MY!!! What a wonderful weekend, and Happy Anniversary!!! Your hotel room sounded grand in your description, the pictures to show how exquisite it truly is! I’m so glad that the hotel gave you that wonderful upgrade for your anniversary! You two have five wonderful years of great memories and fun behind you, how wonderful to think of what the future holds for you both especially since you added the wonderful Abby almost three years ago! I’m so excited and happy for you both that you had such a wonderful weekend celebration!

    Love,

    Carley
